You can access all the options you’ll need to add, edit, and update goals right from the goals view. Every employee can manage goals their own goals. Managers can also manage goals for their direct reports and departments, depending on their roles and permissions. Admins can manage goals for any department or employee, plus company-level goals.


Viewing goals

In the goals view, you can see your own goals or co-worker, department, or company goals that are available to you.

  1. Click Goals in the left sidebar.

  2. Choose a goal type from the top of the window.

    • Me: Your individual goals

    • My Team: Direct reports’ or coworkers’ goals that are available to you

    • Departments: Department goals that are available to you

    • Company: Company-wide goals

  3. Click the profile picture for a person or department in the upper-right corner of the window. Or, use the Search box to search by name.

The individual or group name you chose will be displayed at the top of the main window, with their stats and filtering options. Any goals that are visible to you, based on your role and the goal’s settings, will appear on the list.

Creating a goal

You can create a new individual goal from the goals view any time. Your options to create goals for others or at the department or company level will depend on your role and permissions.

To create a new goal:

  1. Click Goals in the left sidebar.

  2. Choose a goal type from the top of the window.

  3. Click Create Goal in the top-right corner.

  4. Click the Owner dropdown and enter an employee or department name. Choose the correct name from the list of results.

  5. Choose an option from the Visibility dropdown to decide who can see your goal.

  6. Choose Active or Draft from the Status dropdown.

  7. Adjust the Start Date and enter an End Date, if you like.

  8. Choose From Templates or From Scratch to add details.

  9. Click Next.

  10. If you’re using a template, click a category on the left and choose goals from the list on the right. Key results will be added for each goal you create.

  11. If you’re creating goals from scratch, enter a title and add key results.

  12. Click Create.

Goal alignment

You can align a goal with another goal when you create it, or later from the goals list. Goal alignment shows a relationship between goals, whether individual or company-wide.

To add a goal alignment:

  1. Find the goal on the goals list.

  2. Hover over the goal and click the More icon (ellipsis) on the right-hand side.

  3. Click Alignment.

  4. Enter the name of a person or department to search for goals.

  5. Select a goal from the Goal for alignment dropdown.

  6. Review and switch the Relationship to your Goal, if needed. The relationship indicates which goal contributes to the other.

  7. Click Save.

To view goal alignment:

  1. Find the goal on the goals list.

  2. Hover over the goal and click the More icon (ellipsis) on the right-hand side.

  3. Click Alignment.

  4. Click Expand to open a map of aligned goals and their relationships.

To edit goal alignment:

  1. Find the goal on the goals list.

  2. Hover over the goal and click the More icon (ellipsis) on the right-hand side.

  3. Click Alignment.

  4. Review and make changes to the aligned goal or relationship as needed and click Save.

  5. Or, click Remove Alignment then OK to remove the connection to another goal.

You can view a summary of a goal right from the goal list. Just click the arrow to the left of the title to expand the goal.

To view and edit the details of the goal:

  1. Click Goals in the left sidebar.

  2. Choose a goal type from the top of the window.

  3. Click the Title of the correct goal to open the goal.

  4. Make changes as needed, or add key results.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Add or edit goal alignment, if you like, or click OK.

To update progress on a key result:

  1. Find the correct goal in the goals list.

  2. Click the right arrow to expand the goal.

  3. Click the correct Key Result, or open the goal and click the right arrow to the right of the correct key result.

  4. Hover over the percentage of completion and click the Edit icon (pad and pen).

  5. Update the measure of completeness or click Mark Complete.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Make other changes, if needed.

  8. Click Save.

Cascading a goal

With cascading, managers and admins can clone an individual goal and assign it to another individual, department, location, or position, depending on your permissions and company settings. You can also opt to align cloned goals with the original.

To cascade a goal:

  1. Hover over the goal on the goals list and click the More icon (ellipsis) on the right-hand side.

  2. Choose Cascade from the list.

  3. Enter a name to search for others to assign the goal to.

  4. Select a name or group from the results. It will be added to the search box.

  5. Continue searching and adding names or groups until your list is complete.

  6. Click the Align cloned goals to this goal checkbox, if you’d like to add alignment.

  7. Click Cascade Goal.

The goal will be added to every individual, group, or position you selected. You can manage each clone of the goal on each owner’s list of goals.

Comments

You can add comments to a goal, to add details, context, or status updates. Comments are accessible to anyone who can view the goal.

To view or add comments:

  1. Hover over the goal on the goals list and click the More icon (ellipsis) on the right-hand side.

  2. Choose Comments from the list. Existing comments are shown at the top of the window.

  3. Type a new comment under Write a comment.

  4. Click Post.

Deleting a goal

You can delete a goal and any associated key results from the goals list or the goal’s details. Anyone with access to edit a goal can delete it. Deletion is permanent and can’t be reversed.

To delete a goal from the goals list:

  1. Hover over the goal on the goals list and click the More icon (ellipsis) on the right-hand side.

  2. Choose Delete from the list.

  3. Review and click Delete Goal to confirm.

To delete a goal from the goal’s details:

  1. Open the goal.

  2. Click the Delete icon (trash can) in the bottom-left corner of the window.

  3. Review and click Delete Goal to confirm.
